Gathering Steve Argyle's Magic: Why, oh WHY...
Actually, I know why… but it still drives me nuts to see these Steve Argyle alterations on eBay. the seller twinsx2plus1 has FIVE Liliana of the Veil alterations listed on eBay ranging from $100 to $140 each. First off, Liliana of the Veil can be found for $35-45 and as far as I know Steve…
At events, alters are $20. The $40 alters are my mail-in acrylic type.
Each alter is an original work, and I try to do make each one special and personal by asking a little about the person about to get one. It does make me a little sad that some folks don’t care to keep them. I’m a little more bothered by intentional profiteering. Not because somebody makes a few bucks. But rather that when attending an event, time is at a premium. Other people stand in line for hours, dropping or taking losses, just to get a little memento of an event, something special for their cube/binder/commander/whatever, or even just something personal from me. Those are the folks I’m there for. And I don’t like that they have to wait for someone just thinking “I can flip these for five times what I paid, and get that Mox Zirconia or whatever!” I’d rather the true fans not have to wait an extra half hour for every fella in front of them that just wants to cash in. I price my alters as cheap as I can, because I do so love my minions. Sad that it occasionally gets abused. (And oh boy, do I have some stories about that…)
But - for how many alters I do, it’s rare that I see them for sale. In fact, I get tons of stories like “I offered this guy my play set of Beta Edition Wonka’s Ticket, both my kidneys, and my brand new space zepplin for this cool alter you did for him, and he wouldn’t even consider it. So I’ve come all the way from my secret mansion on the moon to beg for one of my own.”99% of Magic players I encounter are absolutely delightful. I’d hang out with them every weekend if I could.
So what I am hearing is that Steve wants to come over tonight to hang out with us. There will be games and I guess he can bring the drinks. Tonight will be a blast.

So for a long time I thought this didn’t work. Then I went and read all the feats myself, and thought outside the box a bit, fixed a glaring issue, and I think this really does almost work. Though there are still reasonable hiccups, what is absolutely valid is still enough…

This makes me wonder how many concept arts and possible cards existed somewhere, but never came to be.
Some warrior who was supposed to be a big deal locked away in a piece of art, never to battle or rule.
